Steve Vai @ The Variety Playhouse

Steve Vai, live at The Variety Playhouse, Atlanta, GA, November 29, 2016

It was a real thrill to photograph Steve Vai. I’ve been a fan of Steve’s since he released his independent album Flex-Able back in 1984, and since then I’ve collected just about everything he’s recorded. His 1996 album Fire Garden is still to this day one of my all time favorite albums, and something that I find myself going back to again and again.

If you’ve never seen Steve Vai live, then I can assure you, you are in for a treat (and a few surprises). Not only will you be treated to one of the finest rock guitarists to ever walk the planet, but you will also leave thoroughly entertained. Steve and band always bring an element of fun to their shows, whether it’s crazy outfits, dance numbers (yes, dance numbers), or the latest popular trend: the “build a song” section, where the band pulls a member of the audience to the stage, has them improvise/sing/hum the drum, guitar and bass parts, and the band performs the song on-the-fly.
