The Allman Brothers Band, live at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Alpharetta, Georgia. The band sounded absolutely fantastic on what turned out to be a perfect, cool summer night. The drumming triumvirate of Butch Trucks, Jai “Jaimoe” Johanson and Marc Quiñones were unfortunately buried behind a mountain of equipment and drums, making it difficult to find clear shooting lanes. I ended up concentrating on the front line of Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks and bassist Oteil Burbridge as they laid down classic rock anthems such as “Blue Sky,” “Ain’t Wastin Time No More” and “Statesboro Blues.” The guitar interplay between Haynes and Trucks was magical, to say the least. On top of it all was Gregg Allman’s legendary, bluesy, soulful voice.
I was pretty thrilled to have the opportunity to photograph the ABB, especially now that they have officially called it “a day.” Their music will definitely live on forever.
