What an amazing night of music from Black Star Riders! I was a late convert to the music of Thin Lizzy, but now realize what a musical force Phil Lynott was. Seeing Scott Gorham and his inspired band rip through several Thin Lizzy classics (in addition to their excellent new material) was a thrill. This is how rock and roll should be. Learn more about the band at their website or on Facebook. You can read a full concert review at The Great Southern Brainfart.

Touring to support the most recent (and critically well received) album Plagues of Babylon, the Tampa, Florida-based band Iced Earth hit Atlanta with a full blast of traditional metal that included a blinding light show and lots of volume. The tour was unfortunately derailed due to founder Jon Schaffer's recurring neck problems, but they will undoubtedly return in full force upon his recovery. In the meantime, catch up with them at these locations: Website | Facebook.

The Swedish metal band Sabaton is a band that I've heard a lot of people talking about, but to be honest I never really heard their music or saw any of their videos before their show at The Masquerade. Holy crap, what the hell have I been missing?!? This band blew me away with their energy and musicianship. They are all natural performers and easily worked the crowd into a frenzy with their enthusiasm. Lead singer Joakim Brodén rarely stopped moving, and ultimately ripped a huge whole in the crotch of his pants from his efforts. And, in one of the classiest moves I've seen at a live show, he gave the sunglasses right off his head to an 11-year old fan in the front row. Well done sir! Find out more about Sabaton at their website or on their Facebook page. You can also check out a review of their show at The Great Southern Brainfart.
